A unique Roman silver cross hailed as the earliest Christian artifact found in Britain has been sent for testing amid claims that it is a fake.
According to a report in the Times, the Chi-Rho Amulet, which was found in an early 5th-century cemetery in Somerset in 1990, is regarded as important evidence of Christianity in Roman Britain.
It is hoped that a newly developed technique known as inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry will determine the exact metallurgical make-up of the amulet, which will then be compared with data held on other Roman silver. (ANI)
