Gifts received by Modi to be auctioned for cause

Gandhinagar, Nov 10 (BJP) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Monday deposited 1,126 gifts, including gold and silver idols, wrist watches and shawls, received by him while in office for being auctioned to fund charitable causes like girl child education.

The gifts were deposited at the government toshakhana (treasury).

Modi had earlier deposited 5,743 gift articles received from November 2001. These were auctioned and the Rs.41.9 million collected was given to the Kanya Kelavani Nidhi (girl child education).

“Chief Minister Modi had made up his mind that he would hand over the gifts to the state’s toshakhana to promote girl child education and welfare,” said secretary to the chief minister A.K. Sharma.
