Idol smugglers arrested in West Bengal

Four people were arrested with three antique idols worth at least Rs.5 million early Tuesday in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district near the Indo-Bangladesh border, police said.
A police official said a team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers arrested the four smugglers – Tarun Ghosh, Debaprasad Sarkar, Subhas Biswas and Ananta Mitra from Chandpara town of the district Tuesday and recovered three antique idols worth at least Rs.5 million from them.
The three idols include an antique ‘ashtadhatu’ (eight-metalled) idol of Goddess Durga which was stolen from a temple at Jessore city in Bangladesh early this year.
