Man, his three children found dead in Gujarat

The bodies of a man and his three children were found floating in a canal near a central Gujarat village, police said Tuesday, adding that investigations were on to find out if he killed the children and committed suicide.

Vinubhai Gulabsinh Chavda had told his wife Rekha Monday afternoon that he was taking the children, Shailesh, 8, Vijay, 6, and Bharat, 4, from his Jogarna village of Anand district to his in-laws’ house at nearby Sundarna village, but did not return, the police said.

Their bodies were found floating in the Mahi canal Tuesday morning, police officials said, adding that the hands and legs of Vinubhai, who was known to be a good swimmer, were tied with a handkerchief and a shoelace.
